Sambaza is a service by Safaricom that allows you to share your airtime with fellow on-net friends. Both prepay and postpay subscribers can use the service to send airtime to other on-net users. This free of charge service allows you to send credit from as low as Ksh 5 to Ksh 10,000 to other subscribers at any time. Sharing airtime with your airtime-strapped friend comes in handy in certain situations.
1. SMS
Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via SMS.
- Open a new SMS message.
- As a message, type the amount of airtime you want to sambaza followed by hash (#), and then follow this with the mobile number you wish to sambaza to, e.g., 20#0722000000.
- Send the text message to 140.
- Wait for a confirmation message from Safaricom.
2. USSD
Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via USSD.
a. Method 1
- Dial *140*amount of airtime you would like to sambaza*mobile number you want to top-up#, e.g., *140*20*0722000000#
- Press the CALL/OK button.
- You will receiving a message to confirm that the airtime has been sent.
b. Method 2
- Dial *456#
- Select “Sambaza” from the options presented.
- Select “Sambaza Airtime”.
- Enter the recipient’s phone number.
- Enter the amount of airtime to sambaza.
- Wait for a confirmation message from Safaricom.
3. SIM Toolkit
Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via SIM Toolkit.
- Go to SIM Toolkit > Safaricom+ > My Account > Sambaza.
- Choose “Prepay” or “Postpay”.
- Enter amount to transfer.
- Search SIM contacts or enter mobile number.
- Tap on “Send”.
4. MySafaricom app
Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via MySafaricom app.
- Open MySafaricom app:
- If you don’t have the app, download it from Play Store or App Store.
- Once you have downloaded it, open the app and enter your phone number to generate a One Time Password (OTP) that will be sent as an SMS and you will use to log into the app.
- Tap “Account”.
- Select “Sambaza”.
- Choose “Sambaza Airtime”.
- Enter the recipient’s mobile number and the amount you want to transfer.
- Tap “Continue”.
