Me2U is an airtime-sharing service that enables you to top up your friends’ and family members’ phones directly from your own phone. Airtime can be sent in any denomination between Ksh 10 to Ksh 1,000 per day. Airtel charges 3% on the amount transferred. However, despite this percentage, the network provider has a minimum amount you can be charged pegged at Ksh 1.20.
1. SMS
Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via SMS.
- Open a new SMS message.
- As a message, type 2u [space] <phone number> [space] <amount> [space] <password>. For example to send Ksh 100 to 0733000000. Simply type: 2u 0733000000 100 0000 and send the SMS to 5050. The default PIN is 0000 which you can change by going to SIM Toolkit > Airtel services > ME2U > Change PIN.
- Wait for a confirmation message from Airtel.
2. SIM Toolkit
Here are the steps for sharing your airtime via SIM Toolkit.
- Go to SIM Toolkit > Airtel services > ME2U.
- Choose “Tuma airtime”.
- Enter amount to transfer.
- Enter mobile number or search SIM contacts.
- Tap “Okay” on the prompt that comes to enquire if you want to send the said amount to the number you have entered.
- Enter PIN. The default PIN is 0000 which you can change by going to SIM Toolkit > Airtel services > ME2U > Change PIN.
- Wait for a confirmation message from Airtel.
