Donald John Trump is an American politician who served as the 45th President of the United States from 2017 to 2021. Before entering politics, he was a businessman and television personality. Donald Trump became the president of his father’s real estate business in 1971, which he renamed The Trump Organization; he expanded the company’s operations to building and renovating skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses.
Trump’s political positions have been described as populist, protectionist, isolationist, and nationalist. He entered the 2016 presidential race as a Republican and was elected in a surprise victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton while losing the popular vote. He became the first U.S. president without prior military or government service. His election and policies have sparked numerous protests.

On January 2021, the House of Representatives impeached him again, for “incitement of insurrection”, making him the only president in the history of the United States to be impeached twice.
In December 2022, the House January 6 Committee recommended criminal charges against Trump for obstructing an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the U.S., and inciting or assisting an insurrection. In March 2023, a Manhattan grand jury indicted Trump on 34 felony counts of fraud, making him the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges.
