How to introduce education to your child with ADHD

If your child is diagnosed with ADHD, do not be scared. It will not become a nightmarish situation if you take action immediately. There is no secret that concentration during academic work is not something you can expect from someone with ADHD. It is even more difficult for a child diagnosed with ADHD and even for the parents who are working day and night in order to ensure that they are not lacking behind. If you are a concerned parent, then here is how you can deal with education for a child who is dealing with ADHD.

1. Make them listen

When visuals seem to be very distracting for your children, it is probably time to begin your child’s education with. Psychologists have discovered through experiments that things that we listen to are more effective when it comes to memory retention. This is why we see audiobooks and podcasts growing in popularity nowadays. It is much easier to put your headphones on and mute the outside chaos. This is what your child needs as well. So, if you find them not able to concentrate on the regular books, then begin their learning journey through audio rhymes and audiobooks.

2. Organize their desk

First, you have to assign a set place for them to study. Children with ADHD can get agitated with sudden surprises and frequent changes because it takes a while for them to adjust in a single setting. Second, yes, it is tempting to get some of the best desk decors for your child when they first commence into the world of education. Unfortunately, that can distract your child even more. So, it is better to keep the desk net and clean with very few items. Only keep the necessary study material and stationary that they might need. If distraction is the problem, cut down on the source of distraction.

3. Food which can help

There are nutritious food items that can help a child to calm the aggression, irritation, and anxiety that come with ADHD. Anything which is high in protein, like chicken meat, egg, beans, and lentils, is a great addition. Omega 3 and fatty acid helps to regulate the chemical functioning of the brain. These you can find in Omega 3 supplements, or tuna, salmon, or any other cold-water fish. Probiotics help them to keep good gut health because a healthy body can induce better concentration. The same goes for berries, as they are a source of energy and antioxidants and can help the child concentrate more.

4. Regular therapy

There is no question about therapy when it comes to a child with ADHD. After all, therapy can actually help them control some of the urges and temptations during ADHD. If a child is put under Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the professional can help them to manage the stress and its side effects effectively. This is one of the advantages of having a weak diagnosis of ADHD.

5. Routine is very important

Lastly, routine is like a backbone for someone who is dealing with ADHD. However, since your child has no idea how to make their own routine, the task falls on you. The goal is to get them used to the idea of a schedule but not overwhelm them. A routine will give them a sense of stability and security. Soon sitting with their books will become more like a reflexive habit. When it comes to the patient with ADHD, one has to build a habit in order to begin concentrating.

Be your child’s special school

On hearing that their child suffers from ADHD, many would plan on sending their child to a special school. However, that is not the right thing to do because your child feels more isolated. Their issue is not physical, it’s mental, and yes, there is doubt that they might not be able to cope with normal children. But you have to become your child’s ‘special school’. Teach them extra so that they are all prepared when they go to school.
