How to pay NHIF contributions

The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is a Kenya government state corporation with a mandate to provide health insurance to Kenyans. The core business and mandate for NHIF is to provide accessible, affordable, sustainable and quality health insurance for all Kenyan citizens.

Normal contribution

To remit your NHIF contributions via Mpesa, follow these steps.

Select the Pay Bill option

Type in ‘200222’ as the business number
Type in contributor’s ID number as the account number
Type in the amount you wish to contribute

Enter your Mpesa PIN
Confirm all details are correct then press ‘OK’
You will receive a confirmation SMS from Mpesa immediately

Penalty

To pay NHIF penalty via Mpesa, follow these steps.

Select the Pay Bill option
Type in ‘200222’ as the business number

Type in contributor’s ID number followed by “y” at the end as the account number, e.g 12345678y. This is so that the transactions could be treated as a penalty
For the amount, enter Ksh 250 for each of the months defaulted
Enter your Mpesa PIN

Confirm all details are correct then press ‘OK’
You will receive a confirmation SMS from Mpesa immediately
