Everyone who has a website or blog on the internet tries to get good positions on Google, especially when the goal is to make money on the internet, as it is the best source of organic traffic for any site. And while it is quite difficult to get a good ranking on Google due to high competitiveness, especially in the more profitable niches, the truth is, once you get it, it is well worth all the effort and investment.
Reaching the first position on Google means that your website or blog will be able to receive a large number of visits and potential customers every day, which not only allows you to make money easily, if that is your goal, but also to get high visibility for any project you are carrying out. There are a few SEO techniques that can be applied to achieve a much desired position on Google, which can be divided into two parts:
- SEO-offline: Which basically consists of getting links from sites on the internet to yours, because each of them counts as a vote of quality and confidence in your content. Without external links, it is impossible for any site that is in a moderately competitive niche to achieve a good position in the search engines.
- SEO-online: Which consists of the way your website or blog is built, the quality of its content and also the internal links that point between the pages that are linked and can bring more value to the reader. While these links are not that important, they serve to help the reader stay on the site longer and to rank the pages we want with the keywords we want to rank for.
In addition, the quantity and quality of the content as well as the way it is presented has a big effect on the ranking of Google. Although it is less relevant, you can hardly reach the first page of Google without a good application of SEO-online techniques. We will in this article discuss in more detail the above SEO techniques that can be applied to achieve a higher rank on Google.
Determine the best keywords
This is the first step before writing any content. There is no point of wasting time in putting together a high quality article if it is about a topic that no one is researching. So, before you start writing about a topic, even if you have a great deal of knowledge about the topic, you should research the topics people are looking for so that you can eventually curate its content. You can start with Google itself – by researching topics relevant to what you want to write and seeing what types of articles and headlines appear on the first page and the suggestions Google itself makes when you start typing in the search bar and at the bottom of the page.
Determine what type of articles that rank better on Google
It is very important to see what types of headlines can rank higher for the topic you intend to write, as each topic has a type of post which, as a rule, can rank higher. You just have to see which article titles appear most often on the first two pages of Google. The most common types are:
- Items that begin with a number, such as a list. 6 best, 5 tips for, 8 secrets for, etc.
- Tutorial type articles that usually start with words like: how to, learn how, what it is, etc.
- More technical articles which usually have the keyword right at the beginning of the article and a brief explanation.
- Review-type articles which are generally intended to present the specifications of a product or service.
Choose a good title and good description
The title is the most important thing your article has because it will appear on Google and so the searcher can click on the link and read your article or not. The description is also important because it can help the searcher to click on the link, which is its title, and therefore should be attractive and arouse curiosity. It’s not as important as the headline because it’s in fine print, which a lot of people don’t read, unless the headline catches their eye first, and because Google doesn’t always display the description that you wrote.
In about 60% of cases, it chooses a block of text more “adapted” to the research carried out. Either way, the title and description should have your keyword very close to the beginning, especially because in the description it appears in bold when it matches the search word. The description should also include identical, synonyms and Google searched words.
Write articles with quality content and practical utility
The content also plays an important role in any article. Besides, the content is the most important part for Google to position your article well, but if you don’t have a good title, few people will read it. Content should be large, typically over 1000 words when it comes to an informative article, but not necessarily. It depends a lot on the niche you are working in.
If you can present the topic in a well-explained and comprehensive way to your readers, so that they are happy with the reading because it resolved the doubt they had, you don’t need to just keep writing and counting the number of words. In some cases, this can make it harder to understand the article and therefore make it harmful.
Beyond the content itself, its presentation is of utmost importance. The content can be great, but if it is presented in large test blocks without any formatting, you will not be able to retain the reader, who will quickly leave your site. However, it should be written in small paragraphs (like this article) separated from each other and it should be “split” with larger lettered subheads, with H2 and H3 tags in order to be attractive. It should also contain images, photos or infographics that complement the content well and make it look attractive.
Associate interior pages with adequate links
As you write, you can use identical keywords in the title of other posts that you have on your site or blog to link to those posts. This will allow the reader to obtain more information, if they wish, and give Google a better understanding of the subject matter of the other articles. These keywords included in these links are often the ones that Google will take into account to determine the position of your articles in its ranking. At the bottom of the article you should also have a few links, preferably with an image or a short description that encourages the reader to read another similar article, which can delve deeper into the topic.
Promote your content on social media
Social cues from people who can read, “like” and share your content can also help you improve your ranking on Google. Although Google says that social signs are not taken into account in the ranking of articles, several studies indicate that they can have a strong influence, even if it is indirect. For example, if you are fortunate enough to have a presentation of your article shared by a large number of your followers and friends, you may be able to get links from some readers who have related blogs, and so on. The simple fact that more people can visit your website from social media is also a good ranking factor for Google, especially if they spend some time on your website or blog and visit more than one page.
Do your best to get backlinks (external links)
The points above are easily managed by you, because it is the SEO-online, which is controlled by you, the conquest of the external links is much more difficult, because it does not depend directly on you. It is very difficult to get good backlinks, especially at the beginning. People who write on the same topic as you, sometimes link to related websites to reinforce their content (and you should do the same), but they will not link to your website or blog if it is new and not very well-known. This is another advantage of being able to reach the first page of Google, as websites and blogs that are on the first page of Google receive backlinks very easily.
