Kenya is divided into 47 geographical units, these units are known as counties, with each of them having a senator, who is elected during the general elections. A senator is a member of the Senate who represents one of the 47 counties. The role of senator was created by the Constitution of Kenya that was adopted in a referendum in 2010 in order to protect the interests of the counties and their governments.
