Most people find hot showers very comfortable especially in the morning, at night or in times of cold weather, but the cons of hot showers outweigh their pros. Cold showers often seem very stressful and unbearable to most people as the find hot ones most relaxing. It’s recommended that if one has to take hot shower, he/she should instead go for warm showers lasting for about 3 to 5 minutes. However, how comfortable and convenient you find hot showers you need to stop completely.
Here are some of the reasons why you should stop taking hot showers.
- Hot showers can damage the keratin cells, which are located on the epidermis, the outmost layer of the skin. Damaging skin cells and tissues, can cause broken capillaries and rashes.
- Hot water strips protective oils from the skin faster leading to a dry, scaly, tight and cracked skin. This arises from damaging of Keratin cells, that are responsible for keeping moisture inside the skin. If you are suffering from eczema, then your condition may worsen.
- Hot showers may lead to falling hair by damaging the roots of the hair found on the skin. The keratin cells are also responsible for protecting skin hairs. If those cells are damaged, it may lead to the damage of hair cuticles. When the hair follicles are damaged, hair grows thinner below the skin and may eventually lead to permanent loss of hair.
- Taking regular hot showers may lead to infertility. Hot water can drastically reduce the sperm count as sperms thrive best in cold temperatures. Washing testes with ice-cold water has often be recommended as a remedy to men with lower sperm count.
- Hot showers are also known to cause itchy skin. The heat from the hot water causes mast cells (which contain histamine) to release their contents in the skin and cause itching.
- Hot water can cause the skin to burn and blister, leading to tiny tears on the skin leading to cell damage, breakouts and infections.
- Taking hot showers in extremely cold climate may lead to heart attack or even cardiac arrest. As a result of sudden change in blood pressure, vasodilation may arise, making your heart needs work harder to pump blood. A great inconvenience to people with cardiovascular issues.
- When taken after alcohol or intoxication, hot water could be dangerous. Alcohol and drugs contain substances that alter blood pressure and heart rate. Hot water enhances the effects of these substances.
- Hot showers, in some people, may cause nausea especially taking hot bath after eating, due to the changes that occur to the circulatory system.
- Hot showers my lead to aggravating acne, making it worse and causing it to spread.
- Hot showers, in some people, may also cause dizziness, as a result of changes in blood pressure levels.
