Fuliza M-Pesa is an overdraft facility that was launched by Safaricom in partnership with NCBA Bank. This is a service that allows Mpesa customers to complete their Mpesa transactions when they have insufficient funds in their Mpesa account. Fuliza is available to all M-Pesa customers, however the awarding of limits will depend on your credit viability and how long you have been using Mpesa.
Here are some things you should know as you apply and proceed to use Fuliza M-Pesa.
- You can use Fuliza M-Pesa on Lipa na M-Pesa (Buy goods and Paybill) as well as Send Money services
- You can use the service as many times as needed as long as you are within the allocated Fuliza M-Pesa limit
- Dial *234# and select Fuliza M-Pesa to check your limit, balance, mini statement and opt out option. Every time you transact using Fuliza, you will receive an SMS with the outstanding Fuliza amount
- Any funds received or deposited in your Mpesa account will automatically be used to clear your outstanding Fuliza M-Pesa
- You will receive confirmation from Safaricom showing how much you can use when you have insufficient funds to make an Mpesa payment
- Mpesa users can also opt out of the Fuliza service but only once their debt is fully paid up
- You cannot withdraw funds from Fuliza M-Pesa (but there’s a way around to do it, you can send that money to your alternative Safaricom line or your friend’s line and ask them to withdraw it for you)
- Fuliza M-Pesa is not a loan product. This is a continuous overdraft service that allows you to complete M-PESA transactions when you have insufficient funds
- You will not have access to your Fuliza M-PESA limit if you have any unpaid balance after day 30. This will however be restored on full repayment of your Fuliza balance
- Every M-Pesa registered line will be treated as a different account. Each mobile number will qualify for Fuliza M-Pesa and will be awarded a limit. This limit will be reviewed every 3 months depending on your usage
Fuliza M-Pesa charges
You will be charged 1% access fee and a maintenance fee on the outstanding balance as per below table. Normal M-Pesa transaction charges apply.

How to Fuliza M-Pesa
To use the Fuliza M-Pesa, you will need to activate the service by following these steps.
- Dial *234#
- Select option 0 ‘Fuliza M-Pesa’
- Then, select option 1 ‘Yes’ to get started
- Lastly, accept the terms and conditions by selecting option 1 ‘Yes’
- Now, all you need to do is transact normally on Mpesa and if you have insufficient funds, Fuliza M-Pesa will cover the shortfall
