Threads is an online social media and social networking service owned by American technology company Meta Platforms. The app functions similarly to other microblogging platforms like Twitter: users can post text, images, and videos; reply to, repost, and like posts by others. The app works adjacent to Instagram: users need to have an Instagram account to sign up and are required to use the same handle.
Instagram users’ verification carries over to Threads, meaning users don’t have to apply and pay for verification separately. So, to get verified on Threads, users must subscribe to Meta Verified. Before proceeding with the steps, users should ensure that everything is correct in their username, profile name, date of birth, and profile picture, as once the process starts, they won’t be able to change anything. To subscribe to Meta Verified:
- Open Instagram app.
- Hit the profile picture on the bottom right corner.
- On the “Profile” page, tap the hamburger menu on the top right corner.
- Select “Settings”.
- Select “Accounts Center”
- Hit “Meta Verified” at the bottom of the page.
- Then, tap “Subscribe” and confirm by pressing “Sign Up”.
- Finally, hit the “Pay Now” button at the bottom and confirm the transaction through the desired mode of payment.
Once the payment goes through, users will need to select the type of verification they want to provide (a form of government ID) and submit a photo of both sides of the document for proof. The verification process can take up to 48 hours, so users shouldn’t worry if they don’t immediately see a blue tick next to their username. If the account doesn’t get verified for some reason, the subscription fee will be refunded to the original mode of payment.
Once users successfully enroll in the Meta Verified service, they’ll get a blue checkmark beside their username, not just on Instagram but on Facebook and Threads. Whether users create a Threads account before applying for Meta Verified or after doesn’t matter. Once the verification is complete, they’ll get a checkmark on all the platforms.
