Changa na M-pesa is a service that allows subscribers to lease a paybill number for a specific period of time for specific fundraising purposes. Whether you need to raise money for medical reasons, education, weddings, funerals, charity and so on, this service will come in handy in helping you consolidate your funds and give well-wishers an easy time. You can rent a paybill number for any duration between 1-6 months.
The number will be available for use within 48 hours upon application. It works like a normal paybill account except that the service is short-term. Leasing a Changa na M-Pesa paybill account will not incur you any charges and there will be no complications for the users as the steps used are the same as for the normal paybill account.
Apart from being a secure avenue for holding cash, Changa na M-Pesa paybill account has other great advantages for you. It represents one point of funds collection ensuring accountability since cash is withdrawn to a bank and a statement of funds is availed for audit. Requirements to apply for Changa na M-Pesa paybill number
To apply for Changa na M-Pesa (Short Term) paybill number, you must meet the following requirements for these various categories.
a. Medical fundraising
- Duly filled and signed short term paybill application form stating purpose and duration.
- Signed terms and conditions.
- Copy of ID/Passport/Alien/Military card of the applicant.
- Certified supporting documents from the hospital/doctor treating the patient which should confirm the need for the collection e.g., reference to an operation/required treatment (on the institution’s letter head, stamped and signed by authorized personnel).
- If applying on behalf of the beneficiary:
- If a minor, the parents/guardian of the child should apply and a copy of the child’s birth certificate should be attached to the rest of the documents as listed.
- If the person is incapacitated, certified copies of IDs for the applicant will be required.
- Letter from the bank or cancelled cheque stating the bank details.
- Registered Safaricom line for settlement of funds (number to be indicated in the application).
b. Education fundraising
- Duly filled and signed short term paybill application form stating purpose and duration.
- Signed terms and conditions.
- Copy of ID/Passport/Alien/Military card of the applicant.
- Certified admission letter and fee structure (either stamped or on institution letter head).
- If applying on behalf of the beneficiary who is a minor, the parents/guardian of the child should apply and attach a copy of the child’s birth certificate.
- Registered Safaricom line for settlement of funds (number to be indicated in the application form).
- Letter from bank or cancelled cheque confirming bank details.
c. Funeral fundraising
- Duly filled and signed short term paybill application form stating purpose and duration.
- Signed terms and conditions.
- Copy of ID/Passport/Alien/Military card of the applicant.
- Copy of burial permit or copy of death notification.
- Registered Safaricom line for settlement of funds (number to be indicated in the application form).
- Letter from bank or cancelled cheque confirming bank details.
d. Wedding fundraising
- Duly filled and signed short term paybill application form stating purpose and duration.
- Signed terms and conditions.
- Copy of ID/Passport/Alien/Military card of the couple.
- Letter from the institution that is to wed the couple stating the duration.
- Registered Safaricom line for settlement of funds (number to be indicated in the application form).
- Letter from bank or cancelled cheque confirming bank details.
e. Charity/Catastrophe/NGO fundraising
- Duly filled and signed short term paybill application form stating purpose and duration.
- Signed terms and conditions.
- A covering letter from the committee stating the purpose of the paybill and the bank account details should be stated in the letter. At least two committee officials to sign the letter.
- Letter from the bank or cancelled cheque stating the bank details.
- Registered Safaricom line for settlement of funds (number to be indicated in the application form).
f. Church fundraising
- Duly filled and signed short term paybill application form stating purpose and duration.
- Signed terms and conditions.
- An official letter from the church authorizing the fund raising and also listing the committee members/elders of the church. The letter should be signed by at least two committee members.
- Any other official document from the church.
- Registered Safaricom line for settlement of funds (number to be indicated in the application form).
- Letter from bank or cancelled cheque confirming bank details.
g. School fundraising
- Duly filled and signed short term paybill application form stating purpose and duration.
- Signed terms and conditions.
- An official letter from the school authorizing the fund raising and listing the committee members. The letter should be signed by at least two committee members.
- A letter from either the Board of Governors (BOG) or Parents Teachers Association (PTA) authorizing the fundraising.
- Any other official document from the school.
- Registered Safaricom line for settlement of funds (number to be indicated in the application form).
- Letter from bank or cancelled cheque confirming bank details.
Application for Changa na M-Pesa paybill number
You can apply for Changa na M-Pesa (short term) paybill number using these three methods.
a. Safaricom self-onboarding portal
- Go to Safaricom self-onboarding portal for Lipa na Mpesa.
- Select “Short Term Paybill” from the drop-down menu.
- Select the category you want the pay bill for.
- You will be prompted to confirm you have all the requirements.
- Click “Apply”.
- Fill all the empty fields in the online application form i.e. duration for paybill, applicant details, payment details.
- Accept Safaricom’s Terms & Conditions concerning the application.
- The next step is OTP verification.
- When done attach the required documents.
- Click ” Submit”.
- Wait for an update from Safaricom.
b. Email
- Download Changa na M-Pesa Application Form.
- Print and correctly fill the form and attach the required documents.
- Make an application by sending an email to short-termpaybill@safaricom.co.ke with the request.
- Once the email is received, a representative from Safaricom will be in touch with you.
c. Visit Safaricom offices
- Download Changa na M-Pesa Application Form.
- Print and correctly fill the form and attach the required documents.
- Have a hard copy application delivered to Safaricom offices.
Withdrawing funds from Changa na M-Pesa paybill account
The authorized person can make a request to Safaricom by through email to short-termpaybill@safaricom.co.ke. Upon receipt of the request, the funds will be rolled up to the bank account given during application.
