The Postal Corporation of Kenya was established by an Act of Parliament (PCK Act 1998) and operates as a commercial public enterprise. The Corporation’s mandate includes provision of accessible, affordable and reliable postal services to all parts of Kenya. The Post Office remains the most accessible, affordable, and effective and time-tested communications platform in Kenya with different Posta outlets spread across the country.
For domestic parcels, one can send up to 50 kgs delivered within 24 hours if in the same town and within 2 days to the rest of the country. For items weighing above 50 kgs, special arrangements ought to be made with the postmaster. For international parcels, two options apply; air or surface parcel services. Surface parcels take 1 week to 12 weeks subject to the container consolidation period.
Air parcels can take between 5 to 13 days. Maximum weight of an individual international surface/air parcel varies from country to country but the maximum Universal Postal Union (UPU) weight is 31.5 kgs. Surface Airlifted (SAL) Parcels are airlifted to their destination countries and delivered as surface parcels upon arrival.
